Course Introduction
Module III: Intervention of Sensory and Motor Problems in Asperger's Syndrome Course Resources |
Module I: Description of Sensory and Motor Problems in Asperger’s Syndrome and Impact on FunctionMotor ProblemsPrevalenceThere have been several studies in the literature that have looked
at the motor skills in children with Asperger’s Syndrome.
11-18 When we look at these studies to try and determine the prevalence
of motor problems in this population, estimates range from 50%
6 to 85%.7
It would therefore appear that conservatively, at least
half of the children diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome will
have some form of motor problem. These problems can involve both
fine motor tasks (generally considered to involve skills of the
hands) and gross motor tasks (generally considered to include activities
such as walking, running, postural control etc.).
