Module II: Assessment of Sensory Motor Problems in Asperger’s SyndromePart II: ASSESSMENT PROCESSProgram Planning
Once the assessment is complete, program planning begins. Program planning is the final, important step before direct intervention is provided. This step could be completed by the occupational therapist that administered the testing. Also, parents, teachers and physicians could contribute towards program planning. Program planning includes the review of assessment findings and collaborating with appropriate people to develop a comprehensive intervention program. In a school setting, the information for program planning is usually shared at a team meeting where parents and concerned staff meet to listen to results and provide input. In a private facility, the information usually is shared with the specialist who tested the child and the family. A completed program plan should identify present levels of performance, project outcomes and provide directions for intervention. These components should also be provided in a formal, written format. Present levels of performance would be most helpful when presented as both strengths and weaknesses, with functional outcomes related to evaluation findings.
