Module II: Assessment of Sensory Motor Problems in Asperger’s SyndromePart III: Test Measures and Test AccommodationsDue to complex issues related to persons with Asperger’s Syndrome who also have sensory integration disorders, comprehensive testing should be required. Therefore, specialists who administer the tests should have a wide variety of tests to choose from. Test tools are usually comprised of two main groups: formal and informal measures. (Click on the icons below to download a complete Chart of Formal and Informal Evaluation Tools. You will need Adobe's free Acrobat Reader if you choose PDF format). Therapists can use both formal and informal tests to evaluate a
child with motor and sensory problems. Formal tests include norm-referenced
and standardized instruments that compare an individual’s
profile to those of typically developing peers or to establish
bench marks. Informal tests consist of inventories, checklists,
interviews and observations not based on comparison of scores to
a normative population11. Informal tests are often constructed
or adapted by the practicing occupational therapist within the
setting to measure particular skills or observations. Formal tests
are usually designed by professionals for the purpose of dissemination
for use on a national or international basis.
